Research Assistant (one position)

The Centre for Social Studies (CES) – Associate Laboratory - University of Coimbra (Portugal), opens a call

for applications for 1 Communication Manager/Assistant (Part-time) in the project “EMiNC – Engaging

Men in Nurturing Care Initiative” (PA 23-013), funded by the OAK Foundation, and coordinated by

Tatiana Moura.

CES provides a stimulating intellectual environment in the domain of social sciences and humanities. The

project EMiNC is implemented within the Observatory Masculinities.pt of the Centre for Social Studies.

a. Project Description:

The Engaging Men in Nurturing Care Initiative aims to realize the vision of children growing up in societies

where men and women are equally treated, respected and appreciated as parents and women’s and men’s

work are equally valued, distributed and recognized in formal and informal contexts. For those purposes, it

aims to:

  • Build evidence for a compelling narrative at the European/country level about the importance of positive

masculinities, fatherhood, and gender equity in early years for child’s healthy development.

  • Implement effective programs at city/country level targeting different early childhood professionals and

fathers to determine change in home and services practices towards increased father/men engagement.

  • Establish lasting partnerships and alliances at city, country, EU level with key stakeholders able to support

the uptake of policy and programs enabling men engagement in nurturing care at country level.

c. Work plan, tasks:

The person to be selected is expected to have the following responsibilities:

  • Monitor, implement and evaluate the research communication plan of the EMiNC project as set in its initial

phase by the coordination team.

  • Provide support in the design and implementation of national campaigns (WP5).

- Support the team in communication and research activities and dissemination (academic and non-

academic) of project results.

  • Support the coordination and research team in communication and collaboration among the partners as

well as with other relevant initiatives, consortia, and European projects.

  • Support the design and implementation of the pilot project with the health and education sectors.


d. Applicable Legislation and Regulations:

Labour Code Law No. 7/2009, of February 12th (and subsequent amendments).

e. Work place:

The tasks will be performed at the Centre for Social Studies facilities or in other locations when necessary

for the good implementation of the work plan, under the scientific supervision of the Principal Investigator,

Tatiana Moura.

f. Duration of the contract:

A part-time temporary contract (termo certo) will be signed starting preferably in September 2023. The

total duration of the contract is 12 months, renewable in case of scientific need, financial availability, and

positive assessment of the work developed.

c) copies of degree certificates; (note: candidates must meet the eligibility conditions and conditions

indicated in point i.)

d) other relevant documents for eligibility purposes.

include a clear indication of the reference of this call (CES/13/2023-EMINC).

i. Preferred selection criteria and their weighing:

1. Higher education in social sciences, with a preference for science communication and masculinities studies

(15%);

2. Proven experience in science communication and gender transformative approaches in the context of

social science research projects and with emphasis on the theme of the project. (40%);

3. Proficiency in Portuguese and English (30%);

4. Availability for national and international travel (15%).


j. Salary:

The gross monthly salary is calculated in compliance with standards applicable at CES, in proportion (70%

time dedication): gross monthly salary of 945,00 euros. The salary further includes a 13th and 14th months,

and meal allowance, and all social security charges, in accordance with the Portuguese Labour Code.

k. Mandatory requirements:

1. Hold a University degree in the area of Social Sciences and/or Humanities (see associated conditions in

a);

a) Applicants with an academic degree and diploma issued by a foreign Higher Education Institution must

present proof of recognition of the academic degree by the Portuguese Higher Education System, (law

DL66/2018). Any candidate without the recognition of the degree(s) will be admitted to the competition,

but during the evaluation process the selection panel, cannot:

a) recognize the candidate's grades and assess according to the possession of such grades;

b) give equivalence to, or validate, the grade of her/his degree;

c) use that note or its conversion as an evaluation parameter.

The selection of a candidate in such a situation can only proceed to the contract signature after the candidate

provides the recognition of the academic degree made by the Portuguese authorities. The selected candidate

will have to deliver the recognition of the degree within 30 days after the communication of the results.

After the 30 days, the jury may decide to 1. either extend the deadline for the candidate to prove the

recognition; 2. assign the fellowship to the second place; 3. or not award the fellowship.

l. Selection process:

Applicants will be selected based on their curricular evaluation. In case of equivalent curricular evaluations,

the best-positioned applicants should be short-listed for an interview. Each of the two methods of selection

applied will have a rating of 50% in the final classification.

The jury reserves the right not to select any candidate.

n. Communication of Results:

All candidates will receive the results by email. The meeting minutes of the selection panel will become

available publicly. After the communication of results, applicants have 10 working days to present a redress

to the evaluation and the result by email.
